One Month At Wealthy Affiliate University

My time with Wealthy Affiliate University has been a tremendous education. Before joining Wealthy Affiliate I was surfing online for ways to make money. I had seen several websites and advertisements. I searched through Google for additional information regarding the websites I was interested in. I ended up joining Wealthy Affiliate University and the reason was simple. All of the advertisements, affiliate promotions, blog sites, and review pages said the same thing. There was even a blog thread, where people were comparing being a part of Wealthy Affiliate University paying by month or paying for all the information in one lump sum from another merchant, that being ProfitLance. The consensus was Wealthy Affiliate University was a genuine place to apply online marketing. It was not a place where you are going to make money fast, like “get rich quick” schemes. To date, I have not made a sale, but don’t get me wrong. There have been people who join and several days later have made money. One particular instance was a gentleman, who posted a link on one of his blog sites, which netted him a sale. That was after three days. I am new to Internet marketing. I view this endeavor as if I have gotten a new job as an advertising professional. So if you think about it, how long does it take to become professional internet marketer? It doesn’t happen overnight, especially trying to make thousands a day.

After joining Wealthy Affiliate University I got instant access to the website. The content presented was great. I was guided to several areas within the site. First and foremost is the eight-week action plan. It is exactly as it sounds. Each week, you have individual tasks that you want to complete. I was also guided to setting up a WA “myspace” area, much like a MySpace account, where people talk and make friends. Lastly, I was told to introduce myself on the WA Forum and post a couple of threads. They recommended you read through as many posted threads as possible to get an idea of what goes on at Wealthy Affiliate.

After roaming around a bit checking out all the information, reading threads, making a few posts, I found myself back at the eight-week action plan. I noticed on the tabs to the left “The Learning Center”. This is where I started to dig in. There was a wealth of knowledge here. All the information was broken down into step-by-step instructions, and links to places you needed to go in order to set yourself up as a professional internet marketer. I spent the next week, experimenting, setting up user accounts, reading about article marketing, understanding pay per clicks (paying for advertising) and getting a handle on the concept of being a professional advertiser.

After one month at Wealthy Affiliate University, I have published three Squidoo articles, created a Google adwords account (a $5 setup fee). If you are a tight budget or don’t have a lot of money, it is advised not to actually promote a campaign until you become more proficient at marketing. The way to go is article marketing, which is free, and there are complete tutorials on how to develop and publish articles. Simple put you can create your own free advertising campaign. I also bought a domain name, built a website and posted it to the web. I set up a click bank account which created a number of product choices to sell. I was also able to find other affiliate programs to promote and advertise on my web site. Some people with experience may find they can utilize Wealthy Affiliate University to produce faster results given their level of expertise. The forum is the place where the people inside come from a wide degree of backgrounds and experience, all willing to share information to those with questions.

There is so much information at Wealthy Affiliate. I know I have just scratched the surface. I am committed to spend the time and work to understand internet marketing. Make no mistake what you put into it and the attitude you apply to learning is what makes things happen. I have been able in a very short time, to set up a business with products, advertising and so much more. I have very little computer skills. No one can spoon feed you every step of the way, especially in a fierce environment like advertising or as it’s called “affiliate marketing” but Wealthy Affiliate University is as close as you will get. Business operators new to the Web are eager to solicit prospects and partnerships online but are generally ignorant about how to go about it professionally. Without knowledge of B2B etiquette, your actions can be taken for rudeness or incompetence, leaving the other party with a poor impression of your company.

Whether you solicit new partnerships or seek to maintain and build relationships with current businesses, the key is to prevent misunderstanding and not give offence.

When sending email:

Fight the urge to be creative Avoid using multiple fonts, size and colours. No HTML or rich media, either. Keep it all in plain text.

Keep it punctual. Do not write a lengthy email and do not use jargon or talk with an overly hip attitude. For your signature file, do not use cute quotes (unless it happens to be the slogan of your business).

Watch your tone. Don’t speak in terms of how great you think your company is. Speak from the point of view of the other business to say, “Look what we can do for you.”

Size matters. Don’t tie up people’s email by sending large, unsolicited attachments. If you have to send a large file, give warning, check on a time most appropriate to send it, such as before or after regular working hours, or send it in segments.

Use discretion. Something that might seem funny to you might be patently offensive to someone else. Even if the person on the other end has no problem with what you’re sending, other people in their office could glance at the offending message. If you’re that inclined to show or tell the person what you have, ask for a non business email address you can send it to where they can review it with more privacy.

Requesting reciprocal links

Planning to feature a hyperlink on your page to a business site? Proper etiquette involves giving the site owners notice. Explain why you would like to feature them on your site, where you plan to feature them, and the description you plan on using with their link.

If you’re soliciting another company to link to your site, provide some background information. Give a brief introduction, a description on your company, and how your site would be a benefit to the prospect’s audience.

Make sure your link has relevance to the other company’s site. If yours is a car company, you shouldn’t solicit a Web design company for a link. Offer something in return, such as a reciprocal link, that is, you linking to the other site as well, and/or some specific comments about that site.

It doesn’t leave the solicited with a good impression if you expect something and offer nothing. A generic link request is about the worst thing you can do. It shows you have nothing to say about the site, and yet you expect its operator to do something for you.

Asking for free advice

There’s nothing wrong with asking your colleagues for advice. However, expecting free business advice from people you don’t know personally – and for your own business gain – is a very touchy issue.

If you are set on asking a company or an individual whom you have never met for advice, handle yourself with the greatest care.

1. Introduce yourself.
2. Give your profession and or skill background. If you are a student, mention where and what you are studying.
3. Explain why you need the advice and how you plan to use it

To make a better impression, mention an interest in the person’s site or works, and what you found there to be helpful or interesting.

Most importantly, before you ask people for advice, search that person’s Web sites first – then the search engines and directories – to see if the answer is already available to you.

Even if the business does not have the answer readily available, showing that you put in an effort will make its owners more open to referring you to another site that might have the information you seek.

If you are soliciting another business to provide you with services, it is incredibly rude to expect a work commitment without a contractual arrangement. Some common examples are:

Telling a business owner to look at your Web site or your other online works, and asking what would improve them

Expecting business owners to create a few samples so they can wait for your decision

Offering to pay for work based on increased revenue, such as pay for performance. If you want some assurance as to work and service quality, look at a portfolio and ask for references

B2B etiquette means knowing how to present yourself online with the same degree of formality and professionalism you would in a face-to-face meeting.

The next time you attempt relations with a new business, stop to think how the person on the other end is likely to receive your communication. Put yourself in those shoes and ask, “What kind of impression do I make?”

The Truth is, most of these online marketing guides simply recycle the same old material instead of offering real and valuable information. So the real question is: Between all the garbage and even worse the Scams, How can one find true valuable sources of information? Without spending absurd amounts of money and time.

It’s very easy to believe these guides and convince yourself that the prospect of getting rich quickly and easily is possible. You MUST posses enough mental toughness and not be tempted!
I have been reviewing these online marketing guides for the past 2 years or so, solely for my own purposes and interests, and have spent countless hours and thousands of dollars doing so.

2.Testimonials: These things just drive me crazy. Every online marketing guide uses social proof to convince you to buy his products, but these testimonials usually aren’t worth the e-paper they were written on. Just remember, unless someone you actually know and trust had recommended a specific online marketing guide to you, don’t base your judgment upon the views of complete strangers.

3.Source of Purchase: Almost every online marketing guide offers its customers “money back guarantee” if they are not 100% satisfied with the product they purchased. Obviously this is great, since if you are indeed disappointed with the level and quality of the guide, you can theoretically receive all your money back in just a few days time. However, don’t trust these promises too much since you have to remember that many of these self proclaimed “Gurus” are actually scammers, and they have no regrets about lying and deceiving you. The way to handle such a thing is to look for the source of purchase, which means pay attention to where your payment actually goes. Paying the vendor directly is usually a very bad idea, and chances are you will never see your money again. If the payment is handled by a third party side (Clickbank, CJ etc…) Then all you have to do is keep a hold on the receipt they will provide, and you could relax knowing your money and personal information are safe.

Social Media Marketing Information For Business Owners: Jenesys Blog

It drives my kids up the wall, I’m on Facebook and all their contacts are now my contacts. When I statement on something, they laughingly say “you’re stalking me, mom, I’m going to take you off my friend list”. (Hasn’t happened yet so I think they aren’t really serious about that.)

But what’s a 40 something year old (and a business owner at that) doing on Facebook?

People know Linkedin well and don’t raise an eyebrow when asked if they are in linkedin. That’s why Linkedin is mainly used for professional networking. But you ask them if they are on Facebook or Twitter and they look at you like you’ve lost it.

I have a profile on all three and some more sites like ecademy, myspace (yeah, who wants to be there anymore?) and several other sites.

But I mainly use Linkedin, Facebook, and Twitter. These sites provide me to build new business relationships. And by showing ongoing updates on both twitter and facebook, I keep in front of new friends so that they become aware of me and my business.

I do opt who I wish to network with. I’m also a bit reluctant to connecting with someone who’s just going to bombard me with “buy this” messages. But all in all, posting comments on Facebook and Twitter has become second nature to me in the past few weeks.

So how has that helped me?

Well, I am now connected to people or offices which I could never attain without these social networking sites. I follow people like Barack Obama (truly!), Whitehouse, Governor Granholm, and many more. No, they are not my “friends” per say. But I can go through what they are up to and they can read my posts (if they were so inclined). Pre-Facebook and Twitter, could you ever get that close to the president, governor, and the president elect and actually get a chance to do one-on-one messaging to them?

Have I stopped new business yet?

As far as business goes, well, I can’t say that I’ve stopped sales one after the other due to my social networking.

But I can say that I’ve increased branding and visibility, there is a sure improvement in traffic, and I have the chance to explore business alliances with more people than ever before.

Will it lead to positive lead generation and closure? Not sure! But will it benefit me in the long run? Absolutely!

It will benefit me because using social networking sites, I am able to network with people across the world and eventually those people will become my referral sources just as I will become theirs. And that is invaluable in business.

So friends, if you’ve not yet joined the social networking revolution, start now. Just concentrate on one or two sites first. And remember, creating a registration and doing nothing with it is not social networking. Networking, whether offline or online, requires effort.

It’s quick and easy to do. It is time consuming so be aware of it. Don’t get addicted to it but be sure to do a little online networking every day. So go now and build your profile on Facebook, Twitter, and any other site that catches your fancy. And be sure to add me to your “friends” or “follow” list.
