Tips To SaveMoney On Airfare Immediately!

by web directory on May.05, 2009, under Travel

I’m sure you’ve seen the advertisements on television or the links on the internet. You know the ones that promise to save you big money by buying your airline tickets from their website. Seems like they all claim to save you big money, if you only buy from their website.

Well, the two simple airfare saving tips I’m going to share with you are at no cost to you. I used these two tips on a recent family vacation to save over $1600 the cost of airline tickets for four people. You can also save money using these two simple tips. And, it doesn’t really matter which internet travel website you use to purchase your tickets!

Tip number one. Fly on a Tuesday or Wednesday. Now, I know you have seen or heard this tip before. But it is true. If you are flexible enough in your travel schedule to depart and return on a Tuesday or Wednesday, you will save money on your next flight. You can save between 8% and 10% by just using this tip. Now, that’s not a lot of money if you are talking about one person, but if it’s a family of four this could easily save you from $80 per ticket on up just by being flexible with your dates. This could pay for a night of the hotel expense or another meal out, depending on where you live and your travel destination.

Tip number two requires a little more effort on your part, but can pay big dividends. After checking your local airport for pricing, check nearby airports for prices and departure times to your destination. Departing from a nearby airport can save you anywhere from a few dollars to several hundred dollars. Again, the key here is flexibility. Let me give you an example. We were planning a family vacation to Hawaii in 2007. We knew this a year in advance. We did not have a concrete date set, but we knew that we wanted to leave about the time school dismissed for summer break. We begin looking for airfare about a year in advance just to get an idea of the cost. The fare from our local airport was running anywhere from $780 to $900. About 8 months prior to departure I was checking airfare prices for the local airport (leaving on a Tuesday or Wednesday of course) and the airfare was $780. I checked a neighboring airport (about a 90 minute drive away) and found the tickets for $380 each. We immediately bought 4 tickets and saved $1600 on our airfare. Of course this doesn’t factor in gas for the drive over and back but trust me, it wasn’t $1600 dollars.

So, when planning your next trip try these two little tips to see if you can save moneyon your next purchase of discount airfare!

Custer SD: City With A Old West Attitude

by web directory on May.01, 2009, under Travel

If you haven’t traveled to Custer City SD, you are missing a living snapshot of the American Pioneer Spirit. Not only can Custer SD in the Black Hills track its roots back to 1875, it’s also heading toward the future with the bravery displayed by its first pioneers.

Solid Roots in the Past
This little town of about 1,800 inhabitants in the Black Hills of South Dakota can boast a timeline back to the years of General George Armstrong Custer. It’s witnessed a gold rush, Indian Wars, and the impact of culture on the Black Hills. And all through it, the spirit of the American Pioneer has remained strong in Custer SD in the Black Hills.

Historic store fronts line the streets of Custer City South Dakota. What was once the Dakota Territory Courthouse now houses a first-rate historical museum. Guided tours into the surrounding hills offer visitors the chance to see bison herds, deer, and wolves that have occupied this region with each new wave of inhabitants.

The magnificent scenery surrounding the town has also fascinated famous visitors. President Calvin Coolidge established his Summer White House here in 1927, and President Dwight D. Eisenhower visited in 1953.

The area arround Custer City South Dakota is also a goldmine of Native American history. Nearby Crazy Horse Memorial has been an amazing work in progress since 1948, when world-famous sculptor Korczak Ziolkowski and Lakota Chief Henry Standing Bear began the largest mountain sculpture on earth. Area museums, battlefields, and monuments commemorate the contribution many Native American tribes have made to the area’s history.

Fearlessly Exploring the Future
Custer SD isn’t content, though, to rest on that abundant history. While other small American towns have disappeared when a predominant industry fails, Custer SD in the Black Hills’s residents have learned to work in region mining operations, pursue social service careers, and work for the tourist industry at State and National Parks. The growth of a nearby technical education center plainly shows the people of this region aren’t afraid to progress into the future.

A brief look at the Custer home scene gives us another clue this small town’s remaining on the map. This is no dying cowtown; homes for sale in Custer range from neat 1930s cottages to gorgeous estates on wooded acreage. With homes for sale in Custer priced far below Denver or Jackson Hole, people gain the glories of mountain life without the exaggerated price tag. That alone is a huge draw for attracting future residents.

The citizens of Custer SD in the Black Hills have built on their pioneer history and are firmly positioned for the future. Once you’ve traveled to Custer City South Dakota to see the beauty of the Black Hills, you might just find yourself wanting to call Custer SD in the Black Hills your home.

Perfect Period To Travel To Singapore?

by web directory on May.01, 2009, under Travel

For the past few years, room rates for hotels in singapore has been rising, some hotels charging as high as a few hundred percent over the room tariffs seen in 2002-2005.

Many visitors wanting to visit Singapore has put a hold on their trip. Business travelers especially, have postponed their trips to Singapore because of the high hotel room rates.

With the recent newly added hotels, and also the economic downturn, prices are seen dropping from the sky high rates during middle and late 2008 periods. You can now book a budget hotel for less than SGD60!

You can now stay in a nice four star hotel for only around SGD180 where previously they used to cost around SGD300!

There are many new singapore hotels, resorts and apartments recently opened, including Capella Singapore, Amara Sanctuary Resort Sentosa, Citadines Singapore Mount Sophia, Cityhub Hotel (which is fast becoming a favourite business hotel due to its low room rates and proximity to the central business district), Ibis Singapore on Bencoolen and lots more.

Singapore is well known for being a shopping paradise, and if you are coming to Singapore for shopping, you can consider booking hotels along Orchard Road or Scotts Road. However, if shopping is not your top priority, you can consider staying somewhere near the central shopping belt instead. Stay near streets like Victoria Street, Bugis Street, Marina Square etc. The hotel in singapore around that vicinity is cheaper than those you can find in Orchard Road. This is true even if you main priority is to shop, staying an extra 10 – 15minutes away from the central shopping belt would mean more money for you to spend on shopping!

Business travelers can consider the same few stretch of roads, like Victoria Street, Bugis Street, Chinatown or even Little India. The hotels which are not in the Central Business District can easily save you up to SGD100 – SGD200 per night!

A visit to Singapore is never complete with a trip to Sentosa Island, the famous resort island of the republic. However, a stay on the island itself can costs quite a fair bit.

It is recommended you stay on the mainland instead, as it is cheaper to do so. However, if you want to experience a night or two on the island itself, you should consider planning your stay correctly. Plan on which day you would want to do your shopping, and when you want to enjoy the sun and the sea. With that in mind, plan your stay correctly and book the hotels on the mainland for your shopping expedition, and stay on the Sentosa Island for the few days you want to enjoy the sea and the sun!

It is definitely good time to make a booking for hotel in singapore room now, before the economy recovers and the rates go right back up again.

Find Helpful Information About Iznájar

by web directory on Apr.26, 2009, under Travel

Iznájar is situated near the southern border of the Córdoba region in Spain and serves as a natural entrance to the Sierra Subeticas natural park.

The town is north of Archidona on the map, with Rute to the north-west and, beyond that Lucena. Priego de Córdoba lies to the north-east with Jáen a little further on.

The town was originally a prehistoric Iberian settlement, but flourished in the eighth century when migrants from Arabia, in the wake of the 711AD invasion by Tariq Ibn Zayid and his Moorish armies, built a castle on the promontory and called it Hins Ashar’, which is now known as Iznájar.

The ruins of the castle still look over the area and are worth a visit just for the history.

Iznájar overlooks the lake of the same name, which is also known as the Lake of Andalucia, which boasts it’s own beach complete with beach side bar, pedaloes, windsurfers, and other items normally found near the seaside.

During the summer the beach is accessible, complete with permanent stone tables and barbecue areas, but disappears during the winter when the water levels are raised

Famous for some of the best angling in the whole of the region, Lake Iznájar is actually a man made reservoir which can contain almost a billion cubic metres of water which supplies a large part of the region with drinking water.

Iznájar is a typical unspoilt spanish town with winding streets leading to the castle and church. Banks, supermarkets, pharmacies and other types of shopping, along with numerous bars and restauraunts, can be found whilst walking through the streets.

Being located only 15 mins from the autovia, 40 mins from Granada and 90 mins from Sevilla, Iznájar makes an ideal central point for your travels. The autovia makes even a day trip to Gibraltar possible with an easy drive of around two hours.

Many visitors arrive in Iznájar and then never leave for the whole of their holiday. You can lose yourself in the tiny alleys of whitewashed stone walls in the older part of the village, whilst the lower, newer district has the large town square called Plaza Nueva, from where there are spectacular views across the surrounding countryside, rich with beautiful silvery green olive trees.

The residents are friendly, speaking a little Spanish is a definite bonus, but are very traditional in their outlook. It is recommended that you dress conservatively as traditional views frown on the wearing of skimpy shorts, vests or any other revealing clothing.

Well worth visiting is the Iglesia de Santiago church, built over time during the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries, with a remarkable late addition in the form of a baroque altar piece. Also of interest is the shrine of the Ermita de la Antigua, de la Piedad, which was built in the seventeenth century and features a curious domed vault, which leads on to an even more unusual eighteenth century dressing room.

Also inside the town itself will be seen evidence of the original fortified town walls, a testament to the importance of the area as a defensive position.

The whole of the area of Iznájar has a lively social life with many fiestas celebrated throughout the year – most notably Semana Santa (Easter), Los Reyes (three kings or twelfth night) and the Fiesta de la Virgen.

In September there is a local fiesta that carries on for the whole of the latter half of the month.

So there you have it, a brief rundown of one of the most delightful towns that we have ever found, pay it a visit, you will enjoy it!

Tours Of London Replacing Overseas Holidays As Recessions Bites

by web directory on Apr.25, 2009, under Travel

The number of UK tourists visiting London shows signs of growing as many budget slashing holiday makers are deciding to see what’s on their doorstep rather than venturing abroad this year.

Famous as being as one of the most exciting and historical cities in the world, London offers visitors a unique blend of centuries of fascinating history as seen in the Royal Palaces, Houses of Parliament, the Tower of London and government buildings such as Downing Street, the residence of the Prime Minister and the comtemporary such as the National Gallery on the South Bank. The historical points of interest coupled with world renowned museums and historic galleries and such institutions as the world famous London taxi and red buses and more recently London Eye makes London tours ideal for visitors to the UK but increasingly, as reported, UK residents themselves. It has never been so hectic being a London tour guide!

Whilst the global recession has largely affected both domestic and overseas holiday destinations London seems to have benefitted in terms of an increase in UK citizens visiting its attractions.

Graham Powell of London tours company, Country Travel Tours, says: “We’ve definitely noticed an increase in demand for our London tour guide service and more than ever our customers are UK residents, many even local to London.”

As well as an increase in Tours of London, London’s museums and galleries have reported increases in visitor numbers. This trend has also spread to the rest of the UK and is thought to be a result of a decrease in people’s disposable income and a view that a cheap or even free visit to the local museum is a good alternative to an expensive night out on the town.

One interesting caveat on the apparent notion of an increased level of visitors to London is that most London hotels are reporting declining occupancy levels which would seem to contradict any apparent influx in domestic visitors to London. However many believe that this is simply indicative of the nature of the visits to London. Graham Powell explains: “What we have been seeing is more day trippers coming to London rather than say week long holiday makers using our London tour service. Also a lot of people tell us they are staying with relatives either in or close to London as opposed to booking paid accommodation in the city.”

London tour guides and museums aside, for many suffering businesses reliant on tourism in London the 2012 Olympics cant come soon enough.

Inaugurated on April 28 of this year, La Mesa Eco Park is a joint effort of the Quezon City government with Mayor Sonny Belmonte, Metropolitan Water-works and Sewerage System (MWSS), Bantay Kalikasan Foundation, private firms and other sponsors.

The establishment of the park was to uplift the environmental consciousness of the people in Metro Manila.

La Mesa Watershed in Quezon City is the primary source of drinking water of about 12 million Metro Manila residents. The property is owned by the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS), a government agency. This forest is the last remaining one of its size in Metro Manila and serves as its carbon dioxide sink. La Mesa Watershed, therefore, is vital to the city, not only because it is a primary source of drinking water, but also because its forest functions as the lungs of Metro Manila, providing it with clean air.

At La Mesa Ecopark, each member of the family can enjoy varied outdoor activities. La Mesa Ecopark boasts of the following facilities:

1. Lopez Picnic Grounds – Five hectares of picnic spots with grilling facilities underneath a forest of varied trees.

4. Shell Flower Terraces – Two(2) hectares of flower terraces. This is actually the dam wall of the reservoir.
